Bedrock is a temporary light-based installation presented as part of the City of Knox’s Immerse Festival, an event that brings contemporary art into everyday public spaces across the region. Installed at the historic Stamford Park Homestead, the work responds to the site’s connection to nature and heritage by blending animated projections of local wetland flora with ornamental design traditions.

Developed by Collide in collaboration with artist Joel Zika, Bedrock consists of five transparent screens featuring holographic spinners—rotating projection surfaces that create the illusion of three-dimensional, floating forms. These screens displayed looping animations of native plants and animals drawn from the Knox region, using custom-built holographic technology to create a shifting, immersive environment.

Collide led all aspects of project delivery, from concept design and digital development to technical planning, fabrication, and installation.

Using methods then used for future projects such as Migrating Light for Vivid Sydney, Bedrock pushed the boundaries of how public art can interact with light, motion, and landscape. The result was a layered and ephemeral experience that celebrated the biodiversity of Knox through contemporary, site-responsive media.
