Weather Vane

Weather Vane is a kinetic digital sculpture formed entirely of holographic light which moves and reacts in reaction to weather data. In response to White Night’s return to Geelong, artist Joel Zika and Collide devised a unique artistic intervention which connects the built/technological world with the natural forces that surround it.

The work takes the form of a giant light sculpture, appearing to float in thin air, heaving and spinning with the wind. In the spirit of the festival, this large playful illusionistic work exists untethered from the infrastructure of the city.

Occulting Light

A ghostly new work from artist Joel Zika and Collide that floated between the historic architecture and beautiful gardens of the Village Green. Presented at the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council’s DRIFT ARTS Festival, beacons of light appeared to drift amongst the trees, lighting a path to guide and beckon visitors. The animated works manifested as delicate and ornate sculptures, each made of precious materials emanating a surreal and transfixing light. This stunning new work features cutting edge holographic screens that will enthrall visitors of all ages.

Audiences uncover a series of three bright circular screens, each of which are three foot in diameter sitting at different heights. Spinning LED hologram technology creates the illusion of an image suspended in mid-air with each screen show 3D rendered content designed to enhance build even greater parallax effect.

Ostensorium

Ostensorium is a light installation, created for Enlighten Festival Canberra, which blends ancient decorative arts with illusionistic digital holographic technology. For this work artist Joel Zika has created a series of 3D digital sculptures which appear to float in front of audiences without screens or a projection surface. The work is made up of three highly intricate animated illustrations using stunning marble and gold shapes which undulate and move playfully in front of audiences.

The Ostensorium takes its name from iconic alter pieces like the Monstrance and Sacred Heart which have been seen in Catholic and Pagan traditions for centuries. The work adapts and distorts the stunning gilded look of these vessels into something which is alive.

Spinning LED hologram technology creates the illusion of an image suspended in mid-air with each screen show 3D rendered content designed to enhance build even greater parallax effect. The three works are based on the decorative boxes of the Ostensorium, they feature bright strands of gold and polished marble which are animated.
