Lattice Work is a series of photographic floral sculptures developed for Douglas Street in Noble Park. The work responds to a shared historical moment, the early 20th century, when both Noble Park and the Art Nouveau movement were taking shape. Referencing the period’s decorative style, the project combines flowing floral motifs with contemporary photographic and fabrication techniques to create a sculptural presence along the street.
Collide worked closely with local residents, cultural groups and business owners to gather images and stories connected to plants, gardens and green spaces. These formed the basis for a series of laser-cut steel frames, each holding vibrant, digitally printed photographs of local and native flowers on UV-stable perspex. The result is a series of human-scaled floral forms that appeared to grow from and wrap around the built environment.
Beyond its decorative qualities, Lattice Work became a reflection of Noble Park’s layered identities. Combining archival aesthetics with contemporary materials and lived community knowledge, the work offers a gentle disruption to the streetscape, inviting residents and visitors to look more closely at what grows, both in gardens and in shared civic life.
